Sri Lanka – Tea Trails

DAY 1
​Airport / Negombo

  • You would be met by your personal Chauffeur Guide at the Airport and transferred to your Hotel in Negombo
  • Rest of the day at leisure on the beach
  • Dinner and Overnight Stay at the Hotel

 

DAY 2
Negombo / Kandy

  • Breakfast & proceed to Kandy en route visit the Orphanage at Pinnawala.The Orphanage was established to feed nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Thereafter, continue your journey to Kandy where you would visit the City center; the most famous Landmark is the Lake, in the center of the City. The Kandy market is a great bazaar full of sounds and existing trade. Visit the Temple of the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. & late in the evening View the Kandyan Cultural Performance

DAY 3
Kandy / Nuwara Eliya (Morning Train Ride to Nanu Oya) Reserved Seats

  • From Kandy to Nuwara Eliya the road starts to ascend steadily , you will have climbed 1,500m You are now in the Tea Country where you will see tea plantations and out of the green in regular intervals the white colored Tea Factories , Waterfalls will enchant your eyes, Occasionally you would see a few Rice Fields and Vegetable Plantations.
  • The Resort town of Nuwara Eliya which is also called Little England is situated 2070m above sea level and lies on a little Lake and is surrounded by mountains covered over & over by tea bushes.
  • Early afternoon you would be picked up from Nanu Oya Railway Station & transferred to the Tea Factory Hotel in Kandapola
  • Dinner and Overnight Stay at The Bungalow

 

DAY 4
Nuwara Eliya

  • Early Breakfast, Trek to the working tea factory at Hethersett where you will witness the method of manufacturing tea. The Hethersett brand of tea is regarded as one of the world’s finest high grown teas and. The quality of the tea has been maintained over the years, the flavor today is the same as that enjoyed by the British decades ago.
  • You would also get the opportunity to participate in the manufacturing process, helping to send the withered leaf to the rolling machine and to watch the leaves being fermented for oxidization and then fired. You can assist in the sorting of leaves according to size and in the packaging process. Then its tasting time, with the morning’s batch of manufactured tea being tasted while the expert explains each brew’s distinguishing characteristics.
  • Your next stop is a visit the little town (Nuwara Eliya) observing the well maintained buildings of colonial Architecture. Visit the busy market where the tea plantation workers rush in and out with their day’s provisions, Drop in at the Hakgala Botanical Gardens, Or Spend the evening walking in the cool climate.
  • Lunch at the Clubhouse of the Golf Club or Hotel of your choice On returning to The Tea Factory Hotel in the late afternoon, high tea is served in the rose garden with scones and jam and clotted cream, English fruitcake, asparagus sandwiches, jam tarts, biscuits and cheese as the sun sets over the surrounding hills.

DAY 5
Nuwara Eliya / Hatton

  • Early Breakfast at the Hotel’s Restaurant & Transfer from Kandapola to Tientsin Bungalow Hatton with lunch at a Restaurant of your choice
  • Tientsin was one of the first bungalows to be built in the Ceylon tea country. Named after the Chinese Village from which the original tea seedlings came, this spacious British residence is now a historical landmark. Charming rooms and suites open onto magnificent English gardens still standing loyal to the colonial planter’s wives who created a “little bit of home” in a far away land. Relax in the tranquil gardens or walk along the century old tea trails.
  • Dinner & Overnight stay at The Bungalow

 

DAY 6
Hatton (Excursion to Adam’s Peak)

  • Early Breakfast or Late Evening proceed to Sripada (sacred footprint) or Samanala Kande (Butterfly Mountain) has been the object of worship and pilgrimage for centuries for persons of all major religions. The British referred to this mountain as Adam’s Peak. Watching the dawn from Sripada is a rare experience. On clear days you can see the shadow of the peak cast on the surrounding forest canopy as the sun rises. The ‘pilgrim season’ begins on the poya (full moon monthly Buddhist holiday) day in December, and runs until the start of the April.
  • Dinner & Overnight stay at The Bungalow

 

DAY 7
Hatton / Colombo

  • Breakfast at the Bungalow we return to Colombo stopping at the Plantation Hotel for lunch. (Optional White Water Rafting)
  • Late evening Check into the Hotel
  • Evening at Leisure
  • Dinner and Overnight stay at Hotel

 

DAY 8
Colombo / Airport

  • On Request transport could be provided for Shopping etc
  • Breakfast at the Hotel and at leisure proceed to airport
